Henry (Harry) was brought up in Workington, Cumberland by his sister Mary. After leaving school he went to work for the Post Office.
In 1936 he joined the Royal Airforce, trained to be a Fitter/Armourer, and reached the rank of Flight Sergeant. During WWII he served with the RAF Coastal Command and was variously based in Oban, Poole (where he met Doreen Geary who was to become his wife), Gibraltar, and the Azores. Whilst being based in Oban he flew several sorties in Catalina flying boats in which the task was to escort and protect the convoys to Russia.
After the war, Harry was employed by DeHavilland in Christchurch and was part of a development team working on contempory aircraft of the 1950's.
When Dehavilland closed down in the early 1960s Harry went to work for the Ministry of Technology (subsequently Ministry of Defense Procurement Directive) and stayed there until his retirement in 1986.
After retirement, he Prostrate and Kidney failure and then died of a heart attack in Southampton General Hospital whilst awaiting a heart operation.
